How to Troubleshoot a Disabled or Restricted Meta Account

Meta may restrict or disable your ad account for a policy violation, suspicious activity, or incomplete verification. In many cases you can resolve it yourself by confirming your identity, securing your account, or requesting a review. Here's exactly how — and what to do when the self-service steps lead nowhere.

Why your Meta account was restricted

Meta restricts ad accounts and business portfolios for a few common reasons:

The good news: most restrictions come with a defined path to resolution. The trick is finding the right one for your situation and completing it cleanly.

Where to start: Meta Business Support Home

Almost everything happens in one place. On a computer:

  1. Go to Meta Business Support Home.
  2. Open Account status overview (you'll also see this from your Account Overview).
  3. Click the restricted account you want to troubleshoot.
  4. Find the What you can do section and follow the recommended steps.

The exact options you see depend on the restriction type and where you are in the process. Below are the steps Meta most commonly asks for.

What you can do to fix it

1

Confirm your identity

In most cases you'll need to confirm your identity before Meta will reinstate the account. From Account status overview, click the restricted account and complete the on-screen steps. You may be asked for:

  • The email address associated with your account
  • Your mobile phone for an SMS code
  • A photo of your ID, such as a passport or driver's license
  • The payment method associated with your account

If nothing further is required, your account is reinstated once your identity is confirmed. Otherwise, return to What you can do for the next step. Note: once you begin, you may need to finish within a set timeframe.

2

Complete verification

If Meta notices unusual behavior, it may ask you to prove it's really you. You'll see either Start verification or Request review.

If you see Start verification, follow the prompts — you may be asked for your account email, a photo ID, and your payment method. If you see Request review, the flow usually involves:

  • Securing your account — turning on two-factor authentication if you haven't already.
  • Verifying your email — clicking a unique link Meta sends to the email on your business portfolio.
  • Requesting approval — asking someone with full control of your Business Account to approve your access.

Complete the process and your account may be reinstated.

3

Secure your account (two-factor authentication)

If you use a business portfolio more than 90 days old, Meta may require two-factor authentication to meet its security standards. Without it, your access to Meta Business Suite tools can be restricted. To fix it: open Account status overview, click the restricted account, choose Secure your account under What you can do, and complete the steps. Once 2FA is on, the account is reinstated.

4

Request a review

If your account is restricted for a policy violation and you believe that's a mistake, you can ask Meta to take another look. You must be an admin on the account to request a review. Meta will re-examine the account and decide whether the restriction should stand.

Important: there's a limited number of times you can request an advertising-restriction review, and once the review is complete, the decision is final. It's worth getting your appeal right the first time rather than burning attempts.

Important things to know

When the self-service steps don't work

Plenty of accounts get stuck: the review comes back denied, verification loops without resolving, or the "What you can do" section simply doesn't offer a path that fixes your situation. That's where most people give up — or keep firing off appeals that quietly lower their odds.

You don't have to keep fighting Meta's system alone.
